But because it was in Lanzarote, built on lava rock, with very limited rainfall and harsh winds and storms and the golf course managed to develop greens they had… wow. What an accomplishment. The course was in poor condition generally. The grass was long on the tees needing a longer tee. The greens were patchy with signs of ant infestation in places. The greens needed cutting and there were clumps of grass on the greens. The holes were very poorly cut with rough edges. The bunkers had probably not been raked in weeks, and a lot of bunkers did not have rakes. It could be a really good course, but if we had booked into the Golf Hotel as part of a golf package we would have been very disappointed. This course needs better maintenance. "

Hacienda del Alamo is a very nice resort with a lot ov nice buildings and houses. We have played many rounds of golf here. We last played Hacienda late March this year. When we found it in a very good condition. Very green and well kept. At that time we believed it was because it was under the umbrella of The Mar Menor and Saurines Golf. This time it was extremely dry and some areas that was previously covered with grass was now drylands.(lokks like they're saving water. Also slow service at the Club House even though it was few guests. We played Roda two days later which was in much better condition. We also played Altaona that was in better condition than Hacienda. We have played Hacienda quite some times as it's located close to Condado de Alhama where we are located when we're in Spain." - KK

This is a desert-style course and it's important to find the fairway. It's pretty flat and they have used the contours well to design an interesting course, with some water coming into play. They must have changed the order of the holes, because Garmin starts on the 4th (this was correct). Long walks between green and tee and time spent looking for balls when they go off into the desert grasses meant that it took longer to play than the length would indicate - 4.5 hours (4-ball pace as we were following some 4-balls). CONS Pity we couldn’t use the buggy on the course. The ground was firm and perfectly ok for a buggy. A couple of the holes the pathway was not very accessible to the fairway. Could do with some signposts directing you to the next hole. PROS We enjoyed playing at Casares and would play there again. Some challenging holes. Très beau golf sur la côte de la mer. On voit la mer depuis presque tous les trous. Le terrain est en très bon état. Les trous sont variés et avec des challenges. Si la note n'est pas "Excellent", c'est à cause de la difficulté pour rendre à ce golf. Il faut traverser la montagne sur des petits chemins très étroits avec beaucoup de virages dangereux. C'est difficile d'avoir le courage de reprendre cette route."

A very interesting and unique layout, nestling in the hills. The course is very hilly so buggies are almost a must. We played after some heavy rain and the course was wet and long so a big challenge. I would like to play it again under better conditions, and enjoy again some stunning holes and views. This was our least popular course on our recent trip to Valencia. The course has a great layout with some interesting holes but needs a lot more care and attention if it is to recover and retain its reputation. The greens were overly soft with much damage, the tees had been scarified but the tees had not been moved for several days so the actual teeing area was bald and uneven. The bunkers were inconsistent and badly maintained so few players seem to bother raking their footprints. Around the greens the approaches had not been consistently mowed, so varied between lush and bare. Service in the pro shop and bar was slow and off-hand. All in all it gave the impression that the owners were resting on their laurels and not maintaining the historical quality of what was a great course in the past. We will not be returning." - Ray

The course is in good condition. Access to the Hills Clubhouse from the adjacent road is restricted to buggies and pedestrians due to civil engineering roadworkings but a shuttle buggy is in operation from the nearby car park this is availed by ringing the clubhouse on your cell phone."

We have played the course many times and always enjoyed it even though it is only a 9 hole course.We go round twice to make up 18 holes and if you go round twice you have a chance to correct any mistakes made on the first circuit. There is development work being done on the complex of the three courses (Ruins, Lakes & Hills courses). The Lakes course and clubhouse is closed at the moment. A new service road is being constructed in the vicinity of the Hills clubhouse and the taxi dropped us off in an adjacent car park which is about 300yds from the clubhouse but by arrangement a buggy will pick you up. Because you have to access the Ruins from the Hills you start at the 4th Tee and acaddy man escorts you to the tee which is a fair drive from the Hills. " - Bob & Sue Garner

The organisation for tee times is terrible, we played the course twice in 4 days, and after a big mix up the first time, with players not wanting to arrange with the starters, we were pushed behind after having received the suggestion to split up as a couple because 6 players insisted on wanting to play as a three ball each. Todays without notice even at reception when checking in, we were moved from 1130 to 1138. We have full respect that not everyone’s has played golf for long, but to be teamed up with someone who started the game a very few months ago is simply not fair, normally there is some control as to whether players have a basic ability of the game, but having to wait for someone hitting 15 to 20 times on a single hole is not enticing. We feel extremely unhappy as this eventually hampers with one’s own game. Course is in very good condition and greens are at great speed which would be fun, but just having to wait as the other player is being mentored is just too much. The people were a very nice couple, but her ability should not take her to a course…." - tcswede

Banan har bra layout, med varierande hål, enkla-svåra, långa-korta och det är lätt att hitta bollarna på de flesta ställen även utanför fairway. Tyvärr var greenerna alldeles för mjuka, vilket gjorde att det blev tufsigt på green, efter varje sko och djupa nedslagsmärken, vilka tyvärr oftast inte var lagade, så jag har aldrig lagat så mycket märken per runda som här. It took more than 5 hours, because there were groups of women players in front of us, who are probably members. They don’t care at all speed of play and just slowly doing putting on the green and chatting and laughing. They seem to have no sense to keep the pace of playing. First of all, we were met by a grumpy guy in the reception, not knowing we were the customers. This was the first time there, and our first impression was not so good. made a question to him, answer in spanish. Asked him gently to speak english and he did. Went out and back in again. New question about were to go, first tee and so on. It was still dark so we couldn't see anything and there was no signs. New answer in spanish and grumpy again when I gently asked him to speak english. Just wondering, can the golf club afford to have such a grumpy, angry guy in the reception? Tee's could be in better shape. Nice course, layout. Wide (compared to Arqueros we played yesterday ;-) ) NO need for a buggy. Greens were ok, but many ball marks not repaired. Realize this is a vacation course, but players should do it anyway. Surroudings very heavy traffic, next time we will look for something more quiet. " - Bruce

With the exemption of Minthis, which we habe not played yet, SV is the most challenging course in the Paphos area. Very good greens, which contain a single grass. The bunkers are well placed and mostly contain a good sand mix. Sometimes there is a bit too little sand which gives you a hard surface. Very friendly staff all around. My first visit to this course as over the years most people have advised me not to bother with it as it’s too quirky and too many unfair slopes. I actually enjoyed it. Accuracy off the tee on many holes is important though. Like many courses here it could be in better condition but overall not too bad some poor fairways. A buggy is much recommended. Lovely views. Staff seemed nice and helpful. Not bad value either and not slow getting round under 4 hours. Would play it again." - Spiggy

I've been playing Chaparral for well over 20 years. I've always enjoyed the layout with the exceptions of the 12th and 17th. The main problem has always been the condition of the tee boxes. However this time the greens were in dreadful condition. They looked like it was a combination of unrepaired pitch marks, damage from wildlife and poor cutting. Calanova is a pleasant course, not too difficult. I don't like the new layout of the 18th. It's a par 5 but I, and I'm not a long hitter, could reach it in 2 and a birdie resulted. The real problem with Calanova is the same as many other trips there....the restaurant. On this occasion only a breakfast buffet was available. Not what a diabetic wants! The staff were not particularly pleasant and you could only eat in one section of the restaurant. It is a nice course with a superb golf shop but the restaurant always let's it down." - RemyM
